What is ELECTROLYSIS Hair Removal? How can it be Permanent?

Electrolysis has been around for over 150 years, discovered in 1875 by Dr Charles E. Michel a St Louis ophthalmologist for the removal of ingrown eyelashes. Electrolysis is a highly skilled procedure which can only be safely carried out by a fully qualified practitioner. 

Hairs grow in a hair cycle, 'think of your hair follicles as a rolling conveyor belt under your skin. We can only treat the hair follicles we can see today. Once we permanently destroy these active hair follicles, the conveyor belt rolls forward, and a completely different set of, 'sleeping' hairs pushes through the skin. This is why immediate 'regrowth' is actually just new hair taking its turn. 

The Three Phrases of Hair Growth

1. The growing phrase (Anagen) - Our Main Target - the hair is firmly attached to the root and blood supply. The Electrolysis current can easily travel straight down to permanently deactivate the growth stem cells. 

2. The changing phrase (Catagen) - the hair stopped growing and detaches from the base. The root shrinks away from the target zone. 

3. The sleeping phrase -(Telogen) the hair is biologically dead and is just waiting to shed. The follicle base is resting deep underground, completely out of reach of the treatment current. 

Can you permanently treat hair in all stages of hair growth?

Experience cannot be automated, while marketing trends come and go a good operator has learnt the skills to achieve precise accurate insertions, read the skin, and master the art of Electrolysis.

Please be aware that I mainly specialise in FACIAL HAIR REMOVAL, although body areas can be treated with Electrolysis hair removal I do not generally take on clients for body hair removal. 

For permanent success - please follow your Aftercare Advice. NO PLUCKING, WAXING, THREADING, as this will effect the treatment, if you need to manage the hair between visits, shave or trim only. 

Always ask to see an Electrologists qualification certificates.  These along with an up to date local authority Special Treatment Licence, and waste disposal contract should all be displayed in their work space

Electrolysis is a proven method of permanent hair removal, and it involves the insertion of a fine probe into the follicle to the root. A mild current is then passed down the needle to the tip to cauterise the hair root, enabling the hair to be withdrawn without plucking. This only takes a few seconds.

A successfully treated hair follicle is then removed with tweezers, YOU SHOULD NOT FEEL IT BEING PLUCKED

Hair is made up from a shaft and a root. The hair on your skin is the shaft, the hair you cannot see is the root as it is buried in the skin's dermis. At the lower end of this root is a swelling called the hair bulb. This is surrounded by a socket called a hair follicle. The hair grows up from the root and emerges from the skin.

Women, in particular from no fault of their own, suffering with polycystic ovaries are particularly prone to having excess hair. Hormone imbalances during menopause can also cause unwanted hair growth.
